How to judge hair transplant before and after photos
Result photos are the most persuasive part of any hair transplant website — and the easiest to get wrong. Lighting, hair length, styling and camera angle can make the same scalp look very different. Use this checklist on every gallery you see, including ours.
- Same light, same angle. Both photos should be taken from the same position, with the same lighting and background. Overhead light on a wet scalp makes any result look thinner; soft front light makes it look fuller.
- The time since surgery is stated. Transplanted hair takes around twelve months to mature, the crown up to eighteen. A photo at six months shows growth in progress, not the final result.
- The graft count and technique are stated. 1,500 grafts on a hairline and 4,000 grafts across the top are different operations. Compare cases that match your own pattern.
- The donor area is shown. A dense front means little if the back of the head was over-harvested. Ask to see the donor area after healing.
- Hair is shown dry and wet, or at least unstyled. Long hair combed forward, fibers or concealers can hide thin areas.
- No retouching. Ask directly whether any photo was edited, and whether the patient consented in writing to its use.
- The surgeon is named. A result belongs to the team that performed it. Ask who designed the hairline and who implanted the grafts.
How we photograph our patients
Our protocol is to photograph every patient before surgery and at follow-up visits under the same light, from the same five angles — front, top, crown, both sides — and the donor area. Photos are stored in the patient's medical record. We publish a case only when the patient gives written authorization, and we never retouch, filter or crop to hide the donor area.
What to ask in your consultation
Ask to see results in patients with a similar pattern, hair type and graft count to yours, at twelve months or later. A surgeon who can explain why a result looks the way it does — density, hairline design, donor management — is worth more than a large gallery. Before and after photos are the most honest way to judge a hair transplant clinic — if they're taken properly. Every photo in our gallery shows a HAIROCKET patient treated at our Tamarac clinic by our Turkish-trained, Florida-licensed surgeons, photographed under the same lighting and from the same angles, with no filters or retouching, and shared with written consent.
How to read a before and after photo
Look at the hairline first: a natural result has a soft, slightly irregular edge rather than a straight line. Check the density behind the hairline, the direction the hair grows, and whether the donor area at the back still looks full. Results should be shown at least 10 to 12 months after surgery — earlier photos don't show the final outcome.
