Many Pinellas County patients keep the trip short: a morning flight from St. Pete–Clearwater International (PIE) or Tampa International (TPA), about an hour to Fort Lauderdale, a meeting with the surgeon the same day, and a flight home after the first wash. Driving is possible too, about 243 miles and about 4.5 hours via I-75, but most people who choose the car use it only for the trip down.

Which airport you use comes down to your address and the schedule that fits; both are about an hour from FLL, and the clinic is a short drive from there. If your procedure starts early, flying in the evening before is the calmer choice, because a same-day arrival leaves little room for a delay. Either way, the night after surgery is spent near the clinic, since the first wash happens the next morning. Parking at the airport for a couple of nights is often simpler than asking someone to make two round trips to PIE or TPA.

Pack for the return, not the arrival. A zip-front or button-up shirt, a travel neck pillow and a bag light enough to lift without straining make the flight home easier. On board, keep your head upright and off the seatback. At the first wash you'll get written instructions for keeping the grafts clean and dry during travel; keep them in your carry-on, and leave any cap that would press on the grafts at home.

The bigger adjustment is back in Pinellas. St. Pete Beach, Clearwater, Dunedin and the St. Pete Pier put a lot of life outdoors, near water and in strong sun. For about two weeks: no Gulf, no pools, no hot tubs. After that, ease back in. Salt water, chlorine and sand can irritate a scalp that's still settling, so rinse gently with the routine you were shown. Paddleboarding, sailing and beach volleyball combine sun and sweat, so a loose hat and a shaded spot matter for the first months.

Follow-ups mostly happen from home. Months 3, 6 and 9 are video check-ins, best done in natural light with front and top views, and the month-12 review can be in person if you want the surgeon to assess density face to face, since by then the result is close to final.
